“While the majority of agents still come to the person’s home or meet in their office, the trend is definitely moving in the direction of utilizing technology,” explains Jesse Slome, director of AALTCI.  “Selling over the phone is far more time-efficient for the agent and many consumers who we speak with would prefer not having an insurance agent come to their home.”

The Association director noted that over 300 insurance agents participated in the online survey.   “Many of the agents who sell 10 or more policies yearly now do so exclusively over the phone,” Slome noted.  “Some sell hundreds of policies each year this way so I couldn’t guestimate what percentage of overall sales are made this way.”

The survey asked agents their primary source of leads.  Nearly a quarter (22.4 percent) reported that client referrals were their primary source.  The largest percentage (40.5 percent) partner with other insurance agents or get their leads by working together with centers of influence such as accountants, estate planning attorneys and financial advisors who do not offer insurance products.

Less than one in 10 agents (6.6 percent) shared that they purchased leads.  “Purchasing leads today can be quite costly,” Slome shared.  “Leads generated can easily cost $50 or more and that can add up quickly especially since many people want some simple pricing information and others may not be able to health-qualify for long-term care insurance coverage.”

Medicare Supplement Insurance Association website hosts #1 Find An Agent Directory

Millions of consumers were exposed today to information about the nation’s number-one generic online Medicare Supplement insurance agent directory.

“With 10,000 Americans turning 65 every day, there’s never been greater interest in Medicare Supplement insurance,” shares Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance (AAMSI).  Slome heads the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance and the newly established National Advisory Center for Short-Term Care Information.

“Agents understand the importance of diversifying their business and Medicare Supplement insurance certainly provides a growing marketplace,” Slome notes.  “We had some 200 consumer calls to our office during Open Enrollment, so we knew expanding the online Find An Agent directory was needed.”

To create heightened awareness for the online directory, AAMSI launched a marketing initiative including a national public relations effort.  “We announced the first findings for the 2016 Medigap Price Index which tells consumers the importance of working with a knowledgeable Medicare Supplement insurance professional.  We are already seeing results, with mentions in news reports across the country today,” Slome shares.

December 26, 2014, Los Angeles, CA –  Rules for the 2015 Long Term Care Insurance Sales Achievement Awards were announced today by the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance.

“Thousands of insurance and financial professionals market long term care insurance products and are deserving of national recognition,” declares Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance (AALTCI).   ”The Association’s annual awards program is designed to call out those producers and give them an excellent opportunity to create awareness for themselves as recipients of their achievement.”

The awards program will recognize insurance agents who sold individual long-term care insurance protection during 2014.   ”There are multiple categories to recognize sales of traditional LTC insurance protection as well as the asset-based long term care products,” Slome explains.   “We even have a category that recognizes those insurance professionals who just started selling in 2014.”

Entries are free of charge to Association members and all qualifying entrants will have their names published in the Association’s 2015 LTC Sourcebook.  “We publish names without numbers and will even rank producers by State,” Slome adds.  “As a result, we will have 50 long term care insurance professionals able to boast that they are the number-=one long term care agent in their particular state for 2014.”

Coverage covers life and health insurance sales including long-term care insurance with options available for producers offering annuities and equity indexed annuity contracts.  Covrerage is available to producers in all states. 

Payment can be made by credit card on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis.   The online application takes between five and eight minutes and asks only eight underwriting questions.  Those who are accepted will receive an immediate certificate acknowledging their approval.
