In 2001 the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance established November as national Long-Term Care Awareness Month as a time to focus long-term care awareness through targeted campaigns and marketing initiatives.

“Our singular goal was to focus awareness and education surrounding the need and purpose behind long-term care planning,” states Jesse Slome, director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance (AALTCI). Slome is founder and serves as director for the organization based in Los Angeles, CA.

“We are pleased to mark another Long-Term Care Awareness Month and celebrate the many achievements including the various governmental and private organizations that have seized on this opportunity to promote awareness of this vital topic,” Slome shared. “Far too many people have no plan for the very real risk of needing long-term care and as millions of Baby Boomers age we are going to face a serious crisis.”

The Association director encouraged insurance agents, insurance companies and organizations such as AARP to join in efforts during November to promote awareness among Americans. “Long term care insurance is just one option available to individuals and that’s why the word insurance was not included when we had the month designated,” Slome explains. “It is, however, an option too few people consider until they are too old or their health has changed and they can no longer qualify for this coverage.”

The Association has released the logo for 2017′s Awareness Month. Copies may be requested by contacting the organization.

A campaign to inform consumers about 'new and improved' long term care insurance planning has been officially launched

The post Association Consumer Awareness Campaign Launches appeared first on American Association for Long Term Care Insurance.

A national consumer-focused campaign designed to heighten awareness of new provisions available from leading long term care insurance providers officially kicked off today.

“Long term care insurance is ‘new and improved’ with plan features and options that will make this important coverage more attractive and more affordable to larger numbers of individuals,” declares Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “We will undertake an extensive national consumer awareness effort to explain important developments to consumers especially those in their 50s and 60s who need to start planning for the risk of needing long term care.”

The campaign officially kicked off with the cover story appearing in the just-published November issue of Life Insurance Selling magazine, a leading industry publication. To read the article click on this link.

“In addition to educating consumers, we need to educate the thousands of insurance and financial professionals who are not familiar with the important industry developments designed to make coverage attractive in the new economy,” Slome adds.

The long term care insurance expert points to options that enable individuals to buy more affordable coverage and increase their benefits in future years. “Long term care insurance used to be a one and done process,” Slome explains. “Today, many will find it advantageous to take what I call a ‘layered’ approach locking in some coverage now with the ability to add to their coverage in future years even if their health has changed.”

“We are going to make consumers aware of what we call the “Good, Better and Best” approach to long term care insurance planning,” Slome notes when explaining the goals of the effort. “Some eight million Americans currently have long term care insurance and we are quite positive about the future growth simply because Americans are not getting younger and they recognize the risk and consequences of not planning.”

Established in 1998 as a non-profit trade group, the Los Angeles, California-based American Association for Long Term Care Insurance advocates for the importance of planning for long term care and supports insurance and financial professionals who market LTC insurance. The Association established November as National Long Term Care Awareness Month in 2001.

Disruption of life is common among many of the 42 million Americans who provide unpaid care to family and friends reports long term care insurance expert

The post Long Term Care Insurance Is Option To Avoid Mandated Family Caregiving appeared first on American Association for Long Term Care Insurance.

Family caregivers provide the overwhelming percentage of personal care much of which is classified as long-term care according to the director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, the industry trade group.

“Some 42 million caregivers provide unpaid care to family and friends at any given time,” says Jesse Slome, AALTCI’s executive director. ”These are dedicated and loving adult children with aging parents and good neighbors who provide an estimated $450 billion in unpaid care but their generosity comes with a cost, often a very high cost in terms of disrupted lives.”

Studies have shown that although family caregivers providing long term care services usually undertake these required care services willingly, they often experience high levels of emotional, physical and financial stress. “Many are adult women who now have to juggle jobs and caring for their own families with their caregiving responsibilities,” Slome notes. “Many parents are turning their children into indentured servants, something they never intended.”

Speaking to insurance professionals in advance of November’s Long Term Care awareness Month, Slome urged discussions with focused on planning to avoid giving adult children with aging parents no other choice but to disrupt their lives to provide unpaid care.

“Long term care insurance today is a viable and can be an affordable option to prevent having to make your children care for you,” Slome stated. “But, the option is only available to those who apply at an age when they can still health qualify and far to many people who call our offices have acquired age-related health conditions that prevent them from meeting the acceptable requirements.”

The ideal ages to start a long term care plan is between ones mid-50s and mid-60s according to the AALTCI director. “We strong urge people to start planning prior to retirement and qualifying for Medicare,” Slome told the group. “Medicare comes with wonderful free health screens that many take advantage of, but those screens uncover conditions that impact a person’s ability to health qualify for coverage.”

Established in 1998 as a non-profit trade group, the American Association for Long Term Care Insurance advocates for the importance of planning for long term care and supports insurance and financial professionals who market LTC insurance. To obtain free, no-obligation long term care insurance costs call the organization’s offices at (818) 597-3227 or visit the Association’s website. Long Term Care Awareness Month (November) was established in 2001 by the American Association for Long Term Care Insurance as a national event to call attention to the importance of planning.

November is declared Long Term Care Awareness Month and the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance plans to focus efforts on educating women.

The post Long Term Care Awareness Month Focus appeared first on American Association for Long Term Care Insurance.

As a result of longer life spans and societal changes, long term care planning is important for both men and women who expect to live into their 80s and beyond declares one of the nation’s long term care insurance experts.

“The issue of long term care is especially important for women,” explains Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long Term Care Insurance. “Today, women provide the majority of unpaid informal care often for their spouses, for their adult parents as well as others and they will also have the greatest need for care at some point in their own lives.”

To educate more women about the importance of long term care planning the Association plans to focus its attention during November’s Long Term Care Awareness Month toward educating women. Slome, who created the Month in 1991 designed to create heightened awareness of long term care-related issue, notes that the effort has received Congressional recognition as well as been declared by several Governors and Mayors. “We specifically did not include the word insurance because this is a far more expansive issue and long term care insurance plays a rather small albeit important part,” Slome adds.

To assist women interested in learning more the organization has already posted a new five-minute educational video online. “Long Term Care Awareness Month is a grassroots effort supported by those individuals and entities which share our commitment about this important matter,” Slome adds. “We hope many take November as the opportunity to educate individuals, whether they focus on both men and women or just women.”

The Association holds its national Long Term Care Insurance Summit during the month.
